Politicians of all persuasions are noted for making promises they may or may not keep. Some promise whatever it takes to get elected with no intent to keep their word. Others hope to do what they say, but unforeseen circumstances get in the way. How glad we are that God’s promises never fail. We find two of God’s precious promises in the book of Isaiah (chapter 25). There God promises to one day prepare a feast for His people. Such a “delicious banquet” symbolizes God’s full provisions for all who accept His invitation. We read in Revelation 3:20, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal (a feast, a banquet) together as friends.” Christ promises to satisfy forever those who accept Him as their Savior. But here is another promise God gives through Isaiah. He promises to swallow up death forever, and to wipe away all tears that death has caused. He will swallow up the great swallower! While these promises are to be fully fulfilled in the future, they apply only to those who today embrace Jesus Christ. God has given us such promises to encourage us to remain faithful in living and serving Christ our Lord. They help us know that nothing we do for Him is ever useless.
