The Charles Booth Conference has announced the opening of registration for the Eighth Annual Charles E. Booth Preaching Conference. This 3-day conference will take place May 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio at the Embassy Suites Columbus Airport.

Distinguished guests and speakers will include Dr. Raquel St. Clair Lettsome, Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr. Pastor of New Psalmist Baptist Church, and Dr. Otis Moss, III, Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ.

Pastors and Christian educators are invited to engage in a discussion on the 2018 conference theme: “Widening Your Net: How Effective is Your Preaching?” Additionally, the conference will continue to focus on five central outcomes: Keeping Passion in One’s Preaching, Christ-Centered Preaching in Contemporary Life, Building Relationships in the Preaching Fraternity, Strengthen the Preacher’s Devotional Life, and Remaining True to the Sermonic Ingredients: the Wedding of Information and Inspiration.

Last year, Conference Founder, Dr. Charles E. Booth, spoke out on the role Christianity and preaching plays in re-shaping communities and the current social climate. “We are living in unpredictable times and the climate of the times are changing on every level of human endeavor,” said Booth. “The Christian preacher is spiritually deputized with the responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, remaining true to the biblical text while simultaneously making the World applicable to the human predicament.”

This year, Dr. Booth aims to answer the question, How does the preacher address the Gospel to all five generations in one setting and be relevant to each one? The five generations include:

  1. THE TRADITIONAL OR SILENT GENERATION (1925-1945)
  2. THE BABY BOOMERS (1946-1964)
  3. GENERATION X (1965-1979)
  4. MILLENNIALS (1980-1995)
  5. GENERATION Z (AFTER 1995)

“Each generation has its own issues and mindset,” said Booth. “…And the preacher must speak to each one simultaneously with a proclamation that is timely and relevant.”

More information about the upcoming conference can be found here.

The Charles E. Booth Preaching Conference came into being in 2011 to address the issue of dearth when considering the current trend in preaching, in general, and African-American preaching in particular. The absence of the pulpit prophetic in addressing the concerns that challenge our people to necessitate such a conference.
