A recent report shows that 62 million Americans volunteer some 7 billion hours each year to help others. That is a good report. Followers of Christ have Him to thank for their motivation. Ever since the time of Christ, His followers have engaged in helping the poor and sick. Christians built the first 300-bed hospital in the 4th century to care for victims of a plague. Today true followers of Christ do as He did. Peter said of Jesus (Acts 10:38), He “went abound doing good.” Paul reminds us that we should do the same. He wrote in Titus 3, that true followers of Christ should “always [be] ready to do what is good” (v. 1). He explains that the Christian’s inner change should motivate us to help others. “Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit” (vv. 3–5). God’s gift of eternal life and the presence of the Holy Spirit, not only inspires us to do good to others, He gives us the power to do it.

Thank you for this article. I’m inspired now to share all the local events happening in our community , to the small businesses I coach and mentor. What a great way for them to honor God, help develop their community, as well as build team morale within their organization. I appreciate your organization immensely!!
