Here’s why Steve Green sings, “People Need the Lord”

Steve Green recorded a very emotional song, “People Need the Lord.” One phrase says, “At the end of broken dreams, He, [meaning Jesus Christ] is the open door.” Steve says one reason he recorded the song was because his parents had given their lives to spread the Gospel to those who had never heard of Jesus. The other reason was because he saw people like himself living an external, performance-based Christianity, with little awareness of God. He says he was one of those elder brothers who never ran away from home but were just as lost as the prodigal son. We read in Luke Chapter 15 that Jesus told three stories to highlight God’s tender love for those who are estranged from him: a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son. In each, we see how deeply God is concerned for those who are lost. In each story there is great joy in heaven when the lost is found. But let’s not overlook that our Lord desires those whom He has found to look for those still lost and help them know who Jesus is–the way, the truth, and the life. He is the way back home.
