One report says Italians spend more than $7 billion dollars a year on fortunetellers. They hope to get advice on how to dig out of their prolonged recession. Thankfully, God’s people need not rely on fortune-tellers to know the future. The Bible tells us about God’s purpose and plan for the earth—and for us. God also tells us who will make it happen. Here’s God’s word about His anointed, the Messiah (Isaiah Chapter 42: “Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth.” God says to the Messiah, “You will be a light to guide the nations. You will open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons. I am the LORD; that is my name! Everything I prophesied has come true.” Jesus Christ, God’s Servant, came just as Isaiah predicted. He gave us God’s word, died to pay our sin debt, went back to heaven, and promised to return. When He comes, He will bring with Him all who have accepted Him as their Savior. He will establish justice on the earth. Today, we share the Good News about Jesus. We also work for peace and justice as we await Christ’s return.
