For many people, the most exciting part of a wedding ceremony is when the bride appears in a dazzling dress. Every eye focuses on the bride and the dress she wears. As dazzling as some brides can be, none compares to the dazzle Jesus reflected on the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus led Peter, James, and John up a high mountain to be alone. As they watched, Jesus’ appearance changed internally and externally. His clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly, Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus. Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it is wonderful for us to be here! Let me make three shelters as memorials –one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” They were all terrified. Suddenly, a cloud overshadowed them and a voice came from the cloud that said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to Him.” The Father’s voice elevated Jesus above even Moses and Elijah. Moses was once on Mt. Sinai to receive God’s revelation. Elijah was once on Mt. Carmel to affirm that only Yahweh was God. Now Jesus glows on the Mt. of Transfiguration. God’s voice declares Jesus as God’s Son. God Himself said we should all listen to His Son. Soon after this event, He was rejected, tried, and sentenced to die. He died for the sins of the whole world. Three days later, He arose from the dead. Today, He offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who accept Him by faith.
