An unofficial survey asked people their favorite season of the year: 20% said spring; 20% said winter; 24% said summer; and 36% chose fall. Are you not glad we can pick from four seasons. We can do it because God created the earth to give us seasons that come and go. Seasons are just one of many laws God established for our benefit. They work because of God’s character, wisdom, and power. God is good, orderly, and dependable. No wonder the psalmist burst out in praise to God. We read in Psalm 33. “Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.” The psalmist invites us to celebrate God’s past and present actions–because they are right and good. One of God’s huge actions is the way He rules the entire universe by His word. His word goes out and things happen. God’s word is reliable because He does not lie, does not forget, does not change His mind or let his promises go unfulfilled. These are powerful reasons for us to praise God–all the time.
