Scholars differ over how to interpret the U.S. constitution. Some say we should interpret it based on the original intent of those who wrote it. Others say it is a Living Document–We should take into account current conditions as we interpret it. Some people try to apply both these principles to the Bible; but all of us should adopt the attitude Jesus had for the Scriptures, since He came from heaven and declared Himself as the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus quoted the Scriptures on many occasions. Each time, He displayed a regard and reverence for their authority and accuracy we cannot ignore. Here is one instance from Luke Ch. 24. Jesus told His disciples, “’When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said, ‘Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent. You are witnesses of all these things.’” Now, since Jesus based his entire ministry on what the Scriptures recorded He would do, who are we to question their accuracy?
