Years ago .an Air Force transport plane with a crew of 5 was flying over Alaska, it ran into a fierce snowstorm. The pilot called his air force base. They told him he was off course and how to correct his path. But he ignored their advice, insisting his own calculations were not that far off. But soon the plane ran low on fuel. Fearing a crash, the six men parachuted out, but with winds at 50 mph and temperature of minus 70 degrees, they soon died-all because of the pilot’s pride. Almighty God knew we humans were on a path toward eternal death and could never find our way to eternal life. So He appointed and sent His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus Christ revealed to us reliable truth to guide us into a right relationship with God. His words of wisdom are a reliable guide for evaluating truth claims in our world today. Jesus also offered the perfect sacrifice that results in the forgiveness of sins when we accept him by faith. The writer of Hebrews, in chapter 2, speaks of Jesus as the God-appointed “perfect leader” to bring us salvation. Unlike the prideful pilot that ignored expert advice and froze to death, we can choose to heed Almighty God who has told us what lies ahead.
