Four young African American men—Daymond John, Carlton Brown, Keith Perrin, and J Alexander Martin started a clothing company called FUBU—which stands for “For Us, By Us.” They began in 1989 selling hats. Today they are a multimillion-dollar company, marketing a variety of clothes, shoes, and related products. FUBU has made it by staying focused on their mission. Just before our Lord died on the cross, He prayed the High priestly prayer found in John chapter 17. In it, He explained his purpose of coming to earth—to offer us eternal life with all the benefits that go with it. He said to his Father, “This is the way to have eternal life —to know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to the earth.” He asked God to protect His followers then added, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.” Jesus prayed that we, His followers, would stay united and focus on His mission—to tell people how much God loves them, how God is eager to forgive all who accept His Son by faith. He wants us to share this message, promote love, righteous living, and justice for all in our world.
