A man wanted a painting to depict peace, so he asked several artists to paint a peaceful scene. Some painted scenes like quiet water, sunsets, and animals grazing peacefully. But the one he liked most was of a single bird perched peacefully on a tree branch during a violent thunderstorm. It conveyed peace in the midst of a storm. That helps to illustrate the peace God gives us when we turn to Him by faith, based on what His Son has done for us. Peace with God is one of the benefits Peter pointed out to the people in Cornelius house, found in Acts chapter 10. Peter said, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right. This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” Peter knew that everyone enters the world alienated from God, because Adam’s sin infected the entire human race. But thankfully, God did not abandon us. He sent His only Son to bear our sins in His body on the Cross. Now, by faith in Him, God forgives all our sins so we can have peace with Him. God is no longer angry at those who accept His Son. In addition, His Spirit lives in us. As we trust Him, He gives us inner peace in the midst of life’s storms.
