Throughout history, many nations have sought to foster justice in the affairs of their people. Yet since court systems are run by humans, they are not perfect. Often knowingly or unknowingly, courts convict the innocent or let the guilty go free. All human court systems pale when compared to the justice God delivers. Because He has perfect knowledge, perfect wisdom, a perfect standard of fairness, and infinite power to back up His decisions, God is well able to deliver justice here on earth. And Scripture tells us that is what God intends to do–in his own time. We read this in Isaiah 42: “Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.” Now, until Jesus God’s son arrives in person, He expects us, His followers, to model and promote justice in our homes, churches, community, nation, and the world.
