The top four of the 4200 religions in the world today are Christianity, Islam, Hindu, and Buddhism. Each of these claims to be a way to find favor with God—even though Christians teach that God seeks us, not the other way around. In revealing himself at Mount Sinai, God revealed that He is so holy and above us that humans can only approach him in the way He proscribes. After Moses led the people out of Egyptian slavery, he took them to Mount Sinai. There God said to Moses. “Go back down and warn the people not to break through the boundaries to see the LORD, or they will die.” At Mount Sinai, God revealed himself as holy and unapproachable except in the way He sets forth. This peerless God of Mount Sinai is the same God who today demands that we approach him in the way He defines. It is why God sent His only Son into the world to serve as our redeemer. Jesus Christ is God’s unique prophet,acceptable priest, and qualified ruler. While we respect each person’s freedom of choice, we stand with Peter who said at Pentecost, “God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah.”
