Today, some people reject the idea that truth is absolute—that some things are right and some are wrong. They insist truth is relative—no one really knows what is right or wrong, so each person has to decide for him or herself. To some people, that seems logical and convincing, but when we bring Jesus Christ into the discussion, we find He had a different view. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” He insisted that He is the absolute truth. Then after making such a bold declaration of His identity as truth, He did something to back it up: He died, but rose from the dead, and went up to heaven. All this shows us we dare not ignore what He taught. One of His apostles, John, wrote a letter to alert us about those who reject his teaching as truth. John wrote in 1 John 4, “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God; for there are many false prophets in the world… If someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God.” So today, when people reject the truth about Jesus—His divine origin, His teaching, His divine mission to pay our sin debt, His role as King of kings—we know they are ignoring absolute truth.
