One of the great benefits of a healthy marriage is the intimacy couples enjoy with each other. Yet no matter how much they enjoy each other’s company, it is only a glimpse of the joy Jesus offers those who put their faith in Him. And whatever depth of intimacy we may enjoy with Him here on earth, it pales in comparison to what awaits us when we see Him face to face. Jesus prayed that His followers would enjoy intimacy with him now, but also that His Father would allow us to see His glory and experience His presence more fully when this life is over. We find a portion of Jesus’ prayer in John 17. “Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began. O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.” These verses reveal the profound intimacy Jesus enjoyed with His Father. The amazing truth is that Jesus wants us to enjoy the same intimacy with Him and with the Father that He himself enjoys. We dare not pass up His offer.
