Sexual freedom is often defined as freedom to express sexuality in any way one pleases. That sounds very liberating, but what many overlook is that what may be legally permissible and socially acceptable, is not necessarily wise. There are unintended consequences. Sexual freedom has consequences like abortion, sexual diseases, unwanted children, orphans, many of whom often end up in prison–to name just a few outcomes. The Bible is quite clear that God intended sex to be exercised within a covenant of marriage. The Apostle Paul once challenged sexual freedom–he chastised one church for ignoring the sanctity of marriage. We read in 1 Corinthians Ch 5. “I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you– something that even pagans don’t do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmother. You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.” Sleeping with one’s stepmother is just one expression of so-called sexual freedom. Wise people carefully consider the numerous consequences of having sex outside the bounds of the covenant of marriage.
