Overconfidence is often the reason many people are late for appointments, miss their flights, or lose on the stock market. Too much overconfidence often results in boasting and pride. It led to the downfall of Alexander the Great, Napoleon, and a host of other proud leaders. Overconfidence can lead to risky decisions often with catastrophic consequences. Surely it’s why the Bible tells us to make sure our confidence in God. Hear what James wrote in CH 4 “Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.” Today, we should always anchor our confidence in our wise and purposeful Heavenly Father.
