Among the freedoms the United States Constitution promises are freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, of a trial by a jury. No wonder people yearn to become citizens—even though some struggle to realize all it promises. But the New Covenant Jesus established promises with far greater benefits than the Constitution of the United States. Here is what we read in Matthew Chapter 26 at the last supper: “As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.” And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.” So with Jesus’ death God established a New Covenant for all humanity. Now, all who repent of their sins and accept His Son receive eternal life—God’s life with all the benefits that come by being in a favorable relationship with the infinite God who created and now sustains all things.
