“Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me; the Bible tells me so.” The truth in this children’s song is just as precious to adults. That’s because we all thrive on love. One expert says love is the greatest antidote for feeling hopeless, which can slow us down or stop us in our tracks. In His Word God makes it abundantly clear that He loves us. The more we understand and accept God’s love for us, the more His Spirit transforms us and causes us to respond to Him in remarkable ways. Daniel knew how much God loved him. That’s why, though exiled in a strange land, he refused to give up his identity by eating food offered to idols. He refused to stop praying even when he knew the penalty was the lion’s den. It’s why he maintained his integrity as he went about his daily duties. We read in Daniel chapter 9 that while he was praying that God would restore his people to their land, an angel appeared. One of the first things the angel said to Daniel was this: “You are very precious to God.” I like that. God loves all of us, but when we respond to His love by faith and obedience, He regards us as very precious.
