Scientists know that twins we call “identical” are not really identical. They may come from one fertilized egg in a mother’s womb, but they still differ in many ways. One geneticist says we should not call them identical twins but “one-egg twins.” Be that as it may, the writer of the book of Hebrews speaks of Jesus Christ as the exact representation of God. He writes, “Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.” This writer points to the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as God’s Son. He came to earth to articulate truth from God by which we can evaluate all other so-called truth. He came to offer the one sacrifice God accepts that now provides forgiveness and eternal life for all who admit their sinfulness and accept Him. He announced that one day He will return to rule over all God’s creation. That is why we love Him, serve Him, live for Him, and seek to give Him our undivided loyalty.
