One survey found that 71% of husbands still loved their cheating wives, and wanted to preserve, not end, their marriage. That attitude is similar to the ancient prophet Hosea. He married Gomer and they had three children. After their third child, Gomer became a wayward wife and offered herself as a slave prostitute. Despite this, Hosea continued to love her. When her slave master abandoned her, Hosea took her back. God used this prophet’s experience to make an important point to ancient Israel, as well as to us. Just as his people abandoned God and turned to idol worship, all humanity has done the same thing. We turned from the Almighty God and turned to self-centered living. Yet God still loves us and is eager to take us back. If we choose to do return, God is waiting with outstretched arms and untold blessings. To use His words recorded by Hosea, chapter 2, God promised to those who repent, “I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the LORD.” God offers an awesome future to those who repent of their sins and accept His Son as their Savior and Lord.
