Someone has figured out that we humans think about 70,000 thoughts in a day. Many of our thoughts are fleeting, random, and without purpose. On the other hand, Psalm 139 tells us how David reveled in the knowledge that God as thinking about him. Here is how David expressed this wonderful truth: “How precious are your thoughts to me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I cannot even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!” It is impossible for us to count the number of thoughts God has for each one of His children. Each of God’s precious thoughts has a purpose — Each reflects God’s love for us, God’s plans for us, and God’s power to carry out His desires for us. If only we would submit ourselves to His wise counsel. David was so enraptured with God’s love and plans for him that he wanted to have nothing to do with those who ignored justice for others and right living before God. He prayed that God would search him and know his heart; he wanted God to test him and know his thoughts; that God would point out anything that offended God. He wanted God to lead him along the path of everlasting life. David’s prayer might well be our prayer.
