Research shows that nearly 2 billion people live in poverty. During the last 20 years, that percentage has dropped from 28 to 21 percent. Researching the causes of poverty is very important. But it is remarkable that when Jesus was asked to weigh in on the cause of a man’s blindness, He took a different approach. Here is that account, found in John. “As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi.” His disciples asked him, “Why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then Jesus spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash in the pool of Siloam. So the man went and washed and came back seeing.” Jesus alerts us to an important principle. While we must research to uncover the causes of certain calamities, we must not limit our response to merely explaining why people are poor, ill, or handicapped. We must as Jesus did glorify God by helping them.

Jesus, represented the power of God in the believer. The blind man could have believed and spoke with his tongue, yet he would have remained blind. We, who are believers are to be the body of God’s power on earth and the responsibility to end the problem of the poor is with us. We are to do for others, as much as humanly possible, that which we would want God to do for us. Such is the sign that God is one with us and the reverse. Such love for human kind is my representation of my love for God. I seek the office of US President,2012, as a write-in so that his will may be done on earth as in Heaven. Question is, am I alone?
