A North Carolina University program has this advice to help parents deal with gang activity: Listen to your children; communicate positive messages; avoid scare tactics; spend time with your children; know their friends: set limits on where they go and what they wear; work with community groups—church, school, police—to provide positive activities for youth. Today, while we do all we can to reduce violence—both the street and corporate variety—we look forward to the day when God will eliminate it completely from the earth. He has promised that His Son will one day return and establish justice, righteousness, and peace worldwide. Here’s one promise God gave by Isaiah Chapter 11: “In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra. Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm. Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord.” That is not a pipe dream but a divine promise certain of fulfillment. Yet until that day, God calls us to work for justice, righteousness, and peace. Since we know a changed heart is the key to a peaceful society, we invite others to experience the change that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
