Dr. George Washington Carver found a way to preserve fruit because he knew our bodies need fruit to keep healthy. That may also be why Jesus often used fruit to illustrate vital truths. He often stressed the importance of being genuine in our profession of faith to him. We read this in Matthew chapter 7: “Just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.” Jesus goes on to say that not every person who claims to speak on His behalf truly represents Him. Jesus says, “On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’” People who only use the Gospel to enrich themselves or to exercise power over people will be shocked and disappointed on the day Jesus judges hearts. Since so many voices exist in the world today, God’s people must study His Word so they can discern the difference between what is true and what is false.
