According to a “60 Minutes” report, 70,000 American bridges are in need of repairs or replacement, and fixing them will cost billions of dollars. Beyond bridges falling apart, other leaders complain about the country falling apart morally and spiritually. One minister says our country is declining morally because we have lost sight of the power of the Gospel to change people, so we fail to share it with passion as people used to do. The prophet Micah spoke of his nation falling apart. He said it was because both political and religious leaders were corrupt. Here are some of his words from Micah chapter 3: “This is what the LORD says: ‘You false prophets are leading my people astray! You promise peace for those who give you food, but you declare war on those who refuse to feed you. … Listen to me, you leaders of Israel! You hate justice and twist all that is right. You are building Jerusalem on a foundation of murder and corruption. You rulers make decisions based on bribes; you priests teach God’s laws only for a price; you prophets won’t prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the LORD. ‘No harm can come to us,’ you say, ‘for the LORD is here among us.’” Of course, every generation believes theirs is worse than all previous ones. Still, God wants people in every generation to realize they are accountable for their actions. That is why to every generation, God offers forgiveness and salvation to all who will repent and turn to Him.
