One business consultant says an effective leader inspires others, is optimistic, has integrity, has confidence, is decisive, can communicate, and is a team builder. Now compare these traits with the Apostle Paul’s description of his ministry as a leader and as an apostle for Jesus Christ. We read in 2 Corinthians chapter 4: “Since God in his mercy has given us this [ministry], we never give up. We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this. … We don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.” Paul, as a leader committed to Jesus Christ, sought to represent Christ as his Lord and maintain integrity in dealing with people. This kept him from being a quitter despite the opposition he faced from those who did not like his message that salvation comes through faith in Christ. His loyalty to Christ kept him from being a deceiver, watering down his message to gain greater acceptance. And his loyalty to Christ kept him from promoting himself instead of promoting Jesus the Christ. He served faithfully because he knew one day he would have to give account to his Lord.
