Most people look into the mirror before they leave home –to make sure they look presentable to the public. If they are not pleased, they change their appearance. God wants to see His moral likeness reflected in us — His children. That is why He created us in His image. To help us know what He wants to see in us, He sent His Son into the world. God’s Son is the exact likeness of God. When God finishes His work in us, we will reflect the moral likeness of His Son, and that will please God immensely. That is what Paul was saying when He wrote this in Romans 8:28: “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Paul directs this truth to those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior. They are the ones for whom God is causing every thing to work together for good. Paul says God not only has this as His purpose, He has an unfailing plan to achieve it. This is it: God chose them from eternity, called them by sending out the Good News; when they heard and believed, He declared them righteous and promised them eternal glory. During our lifetime, God shapes us by using good and difficult experiences. In the end, we will share the moral likeness of God’s Son, and in so doing, we will bring great glory to God, and great joy to us, His children.
