Research shows that people who practice giving thanks tend to be healthier. A University of California professor says, “Grateful people take better care of themselves; they engage in more health protective behaviors like exercise, a healthy diet, and regular physical examinations.” Another professor says, “Grateful people tend to be more optimistic and thereby boost their immune system.” Thanking people who are kind to us is fundamental in fostering good relations. Expressing gratitude to God is even more important. In fact, God says that gratitude is a prerequisite for His blessings. We read in Psalm 50:23, “He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.” We read in Isaiah 12 where God says, “The day will come when those whom He has blessed will express their gratitude this way… They will sing, “I will praise you, O LORD! You were angry with me, but not any more. Now you comfort me. See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD God is my strength and my song; he has given me the victory… In that day you will sing: “Thank the LORD! Praise his name! Sing to the LORD, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world.” Saying thanks is always right when people are kind to us and when God blesses us.
