Next to a decision whether to accept Jesus Christ as one’s Savior, choosing a life partner is most important. Contrary to the modern practice of shacking up to conserve expenses, the Bible teaches that God’s plan is that couples marry and cling to one another. Yet selecting the right mate is not always easy. One Christian advisor offers these tips: Understand biblical marriage. Become the person you want to find. Trust God for the right mate. Choose wisely. From start to finish, ask God to guide you. Abraham desired a wife for his son Isaac; so he sent his servant Eliezer with clear parameters for the kind of woman to choose. Once the servant came to Abraham’s homeland, he asked God to guide him in the selection he made. Although the culture back then was far different from cultures today, one principle stands for people of faith anywhere. The servant asked God to guide him in this most important decision. He prayed, “O LORD, God of my master Abraham, Please give me success today.” After God answered his prayer, he bowed gratefully to God and said, “The Lord has shown his unfailing love and faithfulness to my master, for he has led me.” Finding and choosing a mate is not easy in any culture, yet two vital principles emerge here: Have a burning desire to obey God’s will and trust Him to lead in the right way—whether it is to marry or to stay single.
