By one estimate, America spends $10 billion a year to promote global democracy—the form of government that lets citizens choose their own leaders. Democratic promotion includes things like education, economic development, and political organizing. Despite limited success, the mission is ongoing. When Jesus the Messiah came to earth, He announced His mission to establish the Kingdom of God. After teaching Kingdom values and performing confirming miracles, we read in Matthew Chapter 10 that he picked 12 disciples to promote his mission. Their initial job was to go to their own people because their leaders had failed to nurture and guide them as God intended. Later Jesus commissioned them to go all over the world with the mission of sharing the Good News so all who desired could be forgiven and become citizens in God’s Kingdom. Today, Jesus still calls people –some to devote their entire time in sharing the Gospel. Yet He calls each of us to represent Him—his love, forgiveness, and values–wherever life takes us–at home, on the job, in school, or the community.
