The internet shows that certain people are predicting that Christ will return to earth in 2011, 2012, and 2018. One claims He would come on May 21, 2011. These so-called prophesies are not new. Ever since Christ left the earth, people have tried to predict when he would return. Of course, the Bible assures us that Christ will return one day, despite the many false predictions. The LORD told ancient Israel that He alone could predict the future and make it come true. About 1800 B.C., God said Abraham’s descendants would be slaves in Egypt for 400 years. God promised that at the end of that time, they would leave Egypt and enter the Promised Land. It all happened just as God predicted. Once in the land, God told the people that unless they kept the covenant they would go into exile for 70 years. They went. Isaiah then assured them that God would rescue them from exile. Here are God’s words from Isaiah 44, “The LORD of Heaven’s Armies says, I am the First and the Last; there is no other God. Who is like me? Let him step forward and prove to you his power. Let him do as I have done since ancient times when I established a people and explained its future.” The people went home in 539 B.C. just as God said they would. When God makes a prediction, it always comes true. That is why we trust God’s words in the Bible rather than would-be prognosticators.
