Scientists tell us that our universe is so huge that getting across it would take 10 billion years traveling at 186,000 miles per second–that’s 6 trillion miles per year for 20 years. Despite some assertions to the contrary, we believe that God created and controls all these stars with His word. In fact, the prophet Isaiah says God spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. The prophet says God keeps track of every single star, and calls each by its pet name. The prophet argues that since God has such unlimited knowledge, power, and wisdom, He is quite capable of monitoring and controlling life here on earth. He is quite capable of meeting our every need. Isaiah writes, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” We accept statements like these as God’s word to us — statements that give confidence to those whose faith rest in God and in His Son, Jesus the Christ.
