Over the last 3,500 years of history, nations have signed 8,000 peace treaties and have broken nearly all of them. Yet deep inside of every human heart is the longing for peace, justice, and tranquility. God created us to desire peace. It is also why God has promised to bring peace and justice to the earth one day. In the Bible book of Isaiah 11, we read, “Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot–yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him–the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. He will never judge by appearance, false evidence, or hearsay. He will defend the poor and the exploited. He will rule against the wicked and destroy them with the breath of his mouth. He will be clothed with fairness and truth.” The Person spoken of is Jesus the Messiah. He came to earth, lived a holy life, died for out sins, and went back to heaven. One day He will return. Meanwhile, He left us with a mission: Take the Good News of the Gospel to every person on earth. Teach new disciples to obey all that I have commanded you. Jesus’ teachings include the charge that we live godly; that we serve as salt and light in the world; that we show love to others; and be peacemakers as we work for justice.
