According to one expert, we unconsciously become attracted to people who are like us but not exactly like us; and to those who are opposite to us but not exactly opposite. That helps to explain why men and women are attracted to each other. But it does not explain why God is attracted to us. Here is how Moses described God’s attraction to ancient Israel, recorded in Deuteronomy 7, “The LORD did not choose you because you were larger or greater than other nations, for you were the smallest of nations! It was simply because the LORD loves you, and because He was keeping the oath he had sworn to your ancestors. Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations, and constantly loves those who love Him and obey His commands.” God kept His promise to ancient Israel even though they did not deserve it. God keeps every promise He makes to us; and God most certainly will keep the promise He made to His own Son. God promised His Son that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ would inherit eternal life. Jesus said so. Here are His words recorded in John, chapter three, “God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” None of us deserves God’s favor but He loves us anyway.
