The World Christian Encyclopedia says globally there are 33,000 different Christian denominations. Differences can often be attributed to where people live, their culture, church structure, or their teaching. The Apostle Paul pleaded for unity among God’s people, yet stressed the necessity of retaining the integrity of the Gospel message. He wrote in Ephesians chapter 4 that Christ-followers should “Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.” He goes on to say our Lord gave gifts to the church to build it up. In so doing, it could be a strong witness in the world. Christians will have certain differences because cultures differ in the global community. Still, all of Christ’s followers can affirm Jesus as God in the flesh, God’s perfect Teacher, and the only acceptable sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. He alone is God’s designated King to rule over heaven and earth. Agreement on these truths about Jesus Christ can bind us together.
