According to Harvard Magazine, a skyscraper is not just a tall building anymore. It’s a life-changing experience. They are built so you can live on one floor, shop on another, exercise on a one, and enjoy open-air on a different one. It’s a place residents showcase their prestige and owners display their pride, power, and wealth. A skyscraper is just one symbol among many in our world. Symbols help us understand abstract ideas. God used symbols to convey deep messages to ancient Israel. We read in 2 Chronicles chapter 4 about Israel’s worship Center. Among the items of worship was a Table with Ten loaves of Bread. It symbolized God’s presence in their midst to satisfy their every spiritual need. We find in John 6:35 that Jesus used a similar symbol when he said to the people of his day and—yes—to us, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” What a profound statement! Jesus asserts that He alone can satisfy our deepest desire to live now and forever—with purpose and significance.
