Since TV and modern technology is so pervasive today, experts are offering tips to parents on how to guard their children against pitfalls. They say parents should be consistent, set limits, and be an example and turn off the TV when not in use. They should encourage other activities, toys, play with kids, get involved with them, listen, talk, and ask questions. Years ago, Hannah had implored God to give her a son, promising she would dedicate him to serve God if He did. God gave her a son and she chose to spend the early years of his life nursing and preparing him to serve the Lord. She did not have access to modern research showing how early training can make a difference in a child’s life, still she knew the value of teaching and modeling good behavior that would shape her child’s character. We read in 1 Samuel 1 that Hannah told her husband, “Wait until the boy is weaned. Then I will take him to the Tabernacle and leave him there with the LORD permanently.” Hannah nursed her child by pouring into him faith, trust, and knowledge of God. She shaped his values to prepare him for a life of service. Modern parents can learn a lesson from Hannah.
