We’re familiar with the saying, “Add sugar to lemons to make lemonade,” which could mean “When things seem hopeless, look for the silver lining.” I doubt if the Apostle Paul was just looking for a silver lining when he wrote to the church of Philippi. He was in prison yet optimistic. He wrote in CH. 1, “I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.” Paul was so passionate about spreading the Gospel of Jesus that any situation—good or bad—that resulted in people hearing the Good News gave him joy. Our journey in life consists of choices we make along with God’s divine appointments. Since we do not always know God’s perfect plan, we humbly live in submission to him, knowing His lemonade will always be excellent.
