Parents delight to see their children reflect, not only their physical likeness, but also their personal traits. They know each child is unique, but they delight to see each one grow up to make wise decisions. In a similar way, God delights to see His children develop Christ-like character. The Bible teaches that God wants to see the moral likeness of his Son reflected in those who profess faith in Him. It’s in keeping with this truth that the Apostle Paul wrote this in Philippians Ch. 1: “I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” Since growing into the moral likeness of Christ is God’s desire and will for each of us, this should be our goal each day.
