The book and movie Hidden Figures detail the crucial role African American women have played in U.S. space travel. Despite working in a racially segregated environment, Dorothy Vaughn, Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Hoover charted space flight paths for astronauts. Yet their precise planning skills can only illustrate God’s supreme wisdom in conceiving and charting the path of salvation we enjoy today. After Adam sinned, causing our alienation from God, our Creator set about to restore us to His favor. He chose Abraham to become the father of a nation that would one day give birth to a human redeemer. He picked one of Abraham’s descendants, David, to be that nation’s king and promised the Messiah would come through his kingly line. David’s son Solomon built a magnificent Temple. He did it so his people could worship Yahweh who had made that amazing promise that the Messiah would be his descendant. In time, Jesus the Christ was born into human history. He paid all humanity’s sin debt, and today God offers eternal life to all who accept His Son as their Savior. What an astonishing plan! We could never even conceive of it, much less pull it off. To God be the glory. Great things He has done!
