The book, Hidden in Plain Sight by Raymond Dobard and Jacquelyn Tobin describes how quilt-makers often sewed images into quilts to guide slaves to freedom. Some call the reports myths, but others insist these stories are based on fact. Either way, the stories illustrate how gifted hands can make a huge difference in helping needy people. That is what Peter saw as he traveled around to encourage Christians in the early church. In Acts chapter 9, we read about a believer named Dorcas who was noted for using her hands to do kind things for others especially the poor. She took ill, died, and her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room. When the believers heard that Peter was nearby in another town, they sent two men to get him. As soon as he arrived they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. This woman had used her gifted hands to serve others. Today our world is filled with hurting people who need gifted hearts and hands to show love and kindness.
