Skilled trades like carpentry, electricity, and plumbing are frequently passed from one generation to another. One generation transmits its knowledge to the next. That same principle is often at work when it comes to spiritual values and the truth upon which they are built. So if we fail to transmit solid values and biblical truth to the next generation, we can expect a gradual (if not a steep) decline in biblical knowledge and practice. That was why the Apostle Paul gave such an urgent charge to his protege Timothy as the apostle was about to die. In 2 Timothy CH. 2, he wrote, “Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesse/Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” In our day, parents, grandparents, teachers, and leaders have the solemn responsibility to model and transmit biblical truth and spiritual values to our young people. Only by faithfully doing so can we prepare coming generations to know and love our Lord Jesus Christ.
