Rosa Parks died in October, 2005. Thousands of people stood in awe as she took her last journey to the cemetery. We recall how she changed the course of history by refusing to give up her seat to a white man in Montgomery AL. Her quiet protest sparked the civil rights era that brought about major changes in our culture. While here on earth, Jesus took Peter, James and John to the Mount of Transfiguration. Up there, Moses and Elijah appeared to discuss Jesus’ coming death and departure from this world. We are not given details of their dialogue but they could have been reflecting on Jesus’ mission. He was about to satisfy the sin debt we all owed because we’ve all broken God’s moral laws. They could’ve discussed the reversal of the curse upon the physical universe Christ’s death will bring about. They could have discussed how one day physical dying will end for those who accept Christ as their Savior. Or they might have rejoiced that Satan’s rule would one day end based upon Christ’s saving work. We have fond memories of Rosa Park’s life; but the self-giving sacrifice of Christ has produced benefits far beyond human description.
