In the story of the Prodigal Son, the younger of two boys decided to leave home. He persuaded his father to give him his share of the estate. In a far off country, he spent all his money in wild living. When the money was gone, he began to be in want. Sitting in a pig pen, he came to himself and decided to go back home and offer himself as a slave to his father. We read in Luke Chapter 15, that when the father saw him at a distance, “Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’ But the father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.” This story tells us that no one is beyond God’s love. If we repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, God will forgive us of all our sins. He will welcome us into His eternal family. Then right here in our world, He will empower us to use our abilities, time, and resources to make a difference in the lives of others.
