One man moved to Thanksgiving Street

The story goes that at a prayer-and-praise meeting, one brother shared a long list of his trials and difficulties. When he finished another brother arose and said, “I see our brother lives on Grumbling Street. I used to live there where everything is gloomy and sad, but I moved to Thanksgiving Street. Now my health is better, the air is purer, the water is good, the houses are good, and sun shines in all day. I suggest my brother should move. There are plenty of houses for rent on Thanksgiving Street.” Perhaps that is what Paul the Apostle was getting at when he wrote this in Ephesians chapter 5: “Be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Of course, Paul knew that by living on Thanksgiving Street life would not always be rosy, but as our faith in our all-sufficient Father grows, we develop confidence that He is always looking out for our best interest.
