In his attempt to convert African Americans to Islam, one Islamic leader said Christianity is for White people and Islam is for Black people. He makes the claim based on what some White people have done to afflict people of color. But how wrong he is! Both Scripture and history contradict this claim. In the first place, Christianity began more than 600 years before Islam! But also, God’s Word is clear that His purpose and plan of redemption is open to every person on the globe. Here is how Paul put it in Romans chapter 16: “Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plans for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time. But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever.” All non-Jews are Gentiles. This biblical text is just one of many that make the same point: God invites every ethnic group, language, age, gender, class, and culture to accept His generous offer—salvation through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.
