A flower called a century plant can grow 6 feet tall and live for 30 years before it blooms. Then suddenly it buds, grows 7 inches a day, and reach a final height of up to 40 feet. It takes great patience to enjoy century plants. When God promised to make Abraham into a nation, it took 25 years before his son Isaac was born, 400 years before the nation of Israel was formed, nearly 2,000 years before the Messiah was born, and it is taking more than 2,000 years before Christ establishes His rule over the world. But every milestone causes great joy. When Israel came home from exile, they were filled with gratitude. For 70 years, they had to endure the indignity and pain of being in captivity. We read about their joy in 1 Chronicles 16: “Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him, yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD… Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given… He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. Remember his covenant forever—the commitment he made to a thousand generations.” Today, we show spiritual maturity when in faith, we work and wait for God’s plans for us to unfold in His own time.
