When NASA launched Pioneer 10, they expected it to send radio waves back to earth for two years. But 30 years later, it was still sending back signals, and getting its power from an eight-watt battery! But that’s nothing compared to what a little faith in God can do. Jesus stressed that truth in teaching His disciples the relationship between praying and forgiving others. We find this in Luke Chapter 17. Jesus said: “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting! It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin. So watch yourselves! If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.” The Apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea, and it would obey you!’” Jesus stressed the gravity of causing others to sin because we fail to forgive them. The disciples knew it was hard to forgive a person who repeatedly offends you. So in response, Jesus said if our faith in God is as small as a mustard seed, He can help us forgive those who hurt us.
