At a church meeting, a wealthy man rose to explain how he got rich. He said after he earned his first dollar, he went to church, heard a missionary tell about his work, and decided to give his one dollar—all he had—to God’s work. He said God blessed that decision and that is how he became rich. As he sat down, a little old woman leaned over and said to him, “I dare you to do that again.” After Israel came out of Egypt, and were camped at Mt. Sinai, Moses invited them to give gifts to build the Tabernacle as a worship center. Exodus Chapter 35 tells us how they responded: “All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the LORD. They brought all the materials needed for the Tabernacle, for the performance of its rituals, and for the sacred garments. Both men and women came; all whose hearts were willing. Every man and woman who was eager to help in the work the LORD had given them through Moses—brought their gifts and gave them freely to the LORD.” The people gave willingly and generously because they were grateful for God’s past blessings and because of their faith in God’s promise to care for them in the future. Those are the same reasons we should give for God’s work.
